Trauma Therapy

Trauma is the lasting emotional and physical response that can follow a distressing or overwhelming event. These experiences often leave imprints on the mind, body, and particularly the nervous system. Trauma can shift how individuals perceive themselves, others, and the world. Trauma affects everyone differently, and healing looks unique for each person.

Trauma can affect individuals in many ways. Common effects may include emotional numbness, shame, guilt, anxiety, depression, triggers, PTSD or complex PTSD, hyperarousal (feeling constantly on edge), intrusive thoughts, avoidance or social withdrawal, and unhealthy coping patterns. Everyone’s experience of trauma is unique, and symptoms can vary in intensity and duration.

Our treatments include the following evidence-based therapy approach:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – Helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming and triggering.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – Helps individuals identify and change unhelpful thought patterns, emotional responses, and behaviors connected to trauma.

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) – A specialized form of CBT that helps individuals safely process traumatic experiences and develop coping skills.

  • Forgiveness Therapy – For some individuals, healing may later include forgiveness work, explored only when emotional safety and readiness are present. Forgiveness is approached as a self-directed process that can support emotional release and freedom, without minimizing harm, excusing abuse, or requiring reconciliation.
